SPEAKING ENGINE
Fluency — the Unit 01 milestone
This is your first speaking exam. Not a test of memory, but a checkpoint to decide whether you are ready for the next stage of the Speaking Engine.
FLUENCY
UNIT 01 · SPEAKING MILESTONE
Don't learn the lines. Learn to think in Spanish.
In Build, you learned to put these sentences together. This is the moment to find out whether they have become more than pieces of a puzzle. Can you hear a familiar thought and say it naturally, in one continuous flow?
This is an exam of readiness, not a memory contest. You are not here to recite seven sentences you have memorised. You are here to connect meaning, sound and rhythm so deeply that Spanish no longer needs a detour through your first language.
No mental subtitles. No word-by-word translation. Hear the meaning. Feel the rhythm. Speak Spanish.
BEFORE THE TEST · GO BACK TO THE STORY
First, live the scene.
Don't try to pass this checkpoint by running through Build a few times and memorising its phrases. Go back to the original chapter and listen to the whole story several times. Read along if it helps — reading is welcome here.
See the blue tables at Sol y Mar. Picture Rocío opening the café. Feel the rhythm of the morning as Loli arrives with the bread, then Don Antonio comes in with Chispa. Let the words belong to familiar characters, a vivid place and a situation you can imagine.
Then return to Build if you need it. The goal is not to store sentences like a list. It is to know their meaning and sound so well that the Spanish comes to you with the scene.
Take the checkpoint
Press Play. Listen to each complete Spanish sentence once. In the silence that follows, say the whole sentence aloud, as one thought, with its natural rhythm. Keep the transcript closed during the test. It is there to help you review afterwards, not to provide answers while you speak. Use Pause / Continue to pause and resume. STOP ends the recording and returns to the beginning.

THE MILESTONE DECISION
Are you ready to move on?
Here's the question that matters: Did you understand and repeat most of the sentences as complete Spanish thoughts — without silently translating or assembling them word by word? You do not need a perfect accent or a flawless performance. You need to feel that the language is beginning to move on its own.
Yes — milestone reached. The words are beginning to flow with the meaning. You are ready to continue to the next Speaking Engine stage when it becomes available.
Not yet — deepen the connection. Listen to the original story again. Picture the scene, revisit Build where needed, then come back and try this checkpoint once more. No cramming required.
This is an honest self-assessment, not an automatic speech-recognition grade. The checkpoint guides your decision; it does not claim to measure your subconscious.
Review the seven sentences after the test
